Target Audience: This activity is intended for physicians, physician’s assistants, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses engaged in the care of patients with pulmonary fibrosis.

 

Educational Objectives: After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Explain the pathophysiology of IPF based on the most current data
  • Accurately diagnose IPF using a systematic approach
  • Effectively implement key diagnostic procedures including HRCT scanning and surgical lung biopsy
  • Discuss recent evidence for treatments in the management of IPF
  • Recognize genetic components of IPF
  • Describe the role of lung transplantation in IPF, and the factors that affect candidacy and timing
  • Provide patient lifestyle management tools which improve functional status
  • Develop a comprehensive approach to the management of IPF, that includes both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies

 

Physician Continuing Medical Education:  The Postgraduate Institute for Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 20.5 AMA PRA Category Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

 

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 20.5 MOC points [and patient safety MOC credit] in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. A 10 question post-test will be required in order to obtain MOC credit.
