Chicago Bears Running Back Jordan Howard Presents $10,000 Checkto Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in Memory of His Father
CHICAGO – On Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, Jordan Howard, Chicago Bears record-breaking rookie rusher, presented a $10,000 check payable to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) in memory of his father, Dr. Reginald B. “Doc” Howard. Howard’s father passed away from pulmonary fibrosis ten years ago at the age of 52.
The check represents a personal gift from Howard as a match to $10,000 in donations raised through a fundraising challenge he launched for the PFF. Howard’s campaign asked people to donate $10, and then recruit 10 people to donate $10. The campaign’s goal was $10,000, which Jordan pledged to match if it was met. Bears Care, the charity arm of the Chicago Bears, presented a $2,500 check to the PFF as a bonus to Howard’s matching gift.
“We will keep fighting to find a cure for pulmonary fibrosis,” said Howard. “We’re not giving up until we rid the world of this deadly disease.”
“Jordan understands first-hand the impact of this disease,” said Patti Tuomey, Ed.D., President and CEO of the PFF. “We are extremely grateful for his commitment to our cause and our community.”
Pulmonary fibrosis is a devastating group of progressive diseases that cause scarring in the lungs, limiting oxygen intake. As a result, the brain, heart, and other organs do not get the oxygen required to function properly. There is no known cure for pulmonary fibrosis.
